Our programme took place at four schools in the London Borough of Hounslow. Works included the installation of roof-mounted Solar PV systems, LED lighting upgrades, electrical infrastructure improvements, connection works and roof repairs.
What we did
Axis delivered a Solar PV, LED and Roof Repairs programme for the London Borough of Hounslow.
The London Borough of Hounslow appointed Axis following a successful mini competition through the LHC Retrofit and Decarbonisation (N9) framework under Workstream 6 – Solar PV and Electrical.
Funding for the programme was secured through a combination of grant funding from the Greater London Authority and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero for the solar PV installations and direct council investment for the LED lighting.

And so we worked closely with school leadership teams and the council’s project management team to coordinate access, maintain safeguarding standards and ensure works were completed safely around pupils and staff.
We scheduled the majority of installation activity during school holidays and half-term breaks, reducing disruption to teaching and learning.
And our electrical specialists and roofing teams worked simultaneously across multiple sites. This enabled efficient delivery, with some installations completed within a single week while maintaining quality and programme deadlines.
Axis also worked collaboratively with the London Borough of Hounslow’s project management team to identify additional opportunities for LED lighting improvements beyond the original scope. These value-engineering opportunities created further energy savings and enhanced the long-term benefits of the programme.
As part of our social value commitment, Axis is supporting each school with a £1,000 environmental donation to fund sustainability initiatives, educational resources and activities selected by the schools. We also committed to delivering educational presentations to pupils, helping them understand renewable energy, sustainability and carbon reduction.
