Launching a Work Experience Programme in Shepshed, for Students at Limehurst Academy
On 16th October, 19 female students from Limehurst Academy in Leicester joined us at the CLC Shepshed division for the launch of an exciting work experience project.
Due to the nature of property maintenance work, providing site-based work experience opportunities is not always practical or accessible. To overcome this, we have introduced a project-based programme that helps students understand our services, explore our industry and develop their employability skills.
During the day, the students were set a challenge to act as bidders for a refurbishment contract. They were tasked with developing a scope of works, while considering:
- Project risks
- Resident requirements
- Social value commitments
- Project schedules and budget constraints
The students will continue to work on their projects at school before presenting their final proposal to CLC employees in the coming weeks.
The day concluded with two CLC colleagues sharing their career journeys, giving students an insight into job roles they may not have previously considered.
One of the most encouraging outcomes from the day was the feedback. When asked whether they would be interested in hearing more about roles in property maintenance and within Axis CLC, 73% said Yes or Maybe. This is why work experience matters; it helps students understand the variety of pathways open to them.
Our sector offers a wide range of careers, yet many young people, especially young women, don’t always see it as an option. If we can help challenge these perceptions and inspire the next generation, we are making a real impact.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the day a success.
