Our Warrington branch recently lent a hand in an incredible project for Community Shop in Kirkdale, Liverpool. They provided labour and materials to help transform a piece of land into an allotment for the community. The Warrington team contributed by restoring the walls and fences.
Community Shop in Liverpool is one of twelve stores run by Company Shop Group, which redistributes surplus food and household products. Their mission is to not only reduce waste but to also provide affordable products for those who are struggling with the rising cost of living. Community Shop is an award-winning social enterprise and the UK’s first social supermarket chain.
“Thank you so much for all your help with our allotment project! I can’t even begin to tell you what a difference it has made. The difference in just a few days is nothing other than outstanding and has given both myself and my allotment group a new energy for it. Phil Green and Brandon Ross have completely turned this around and at last we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. They were fabulous, so helpful and thorough, and constantly kept me updated on what was happening, he is a true credit to your company.”

The products are not only cheaper but are also high quality. Major retailers and manufacturers donate the majority of the stock which is then sold to members at deeply discounted prices. Membership is offered to local people who receive welfare or financial support.
Revenue from the shops goes towards further projects like courses and resources that teach members skills like budgeting money, maintaining health and wellbeing, cooking and job hunting.
The store in Liverpool needed CLC’s help constructing their new community growing space, and we were more than happy to help. The allotment is an amazing resource for the members; providing a space where they can grow their own food which they can then take home and cook. This kind of work in communities is so important because it provides vital resources, education, and social interaction for those who need it.
We look forward to seeing what delicious produce the members grow and future projects that make a difference.
“The Community Shop which Michelle heads up works wonders in the Liverpool area, and I hope our small gesture has made a difference to the allotment group.”
