The Ridge Academy Redecoration Project

We collaborated with The Ridge School in Cheltenham during the Summer holidays to provide an entire renovation of the schools classrooms, hallways and facilities.

After years of seeing generations of children cross the threshold of the school, the Academies Enterprise Trust decided the school required major redecoration work within their Classrooms, Staff Areas, School Hall and Communal Hallways. Spread across the course of 8 weeks, we completed the work during the school holidays, finishing in time for the fresh start of a new school year in September.

The Project

A well loved primary school, situated in the heart of the Cotswolds, The Ridge School has been a haven for education and child development for many years.

The school had become tired and slightly unloved so enlisted our help to transform the building into a fresh, new environment for the children and staff. The works in this project centred around the complete redecoration of the school’s 12 classrooms, school hall, staff rooms, offices and hallways.

Our painters armed themselves with pots and paintbrushes and began working on the project during the Summer Term break for a period of 8 weeks. The project also saw us working in conjunction with local sub-contractors to install new flooring.

Our Solution

During the beginning of the revamp our team of two had their fillers at the ready, initially making pre-paint repairs across the building. Some of the walls were badly damaged including holes in the plasterboard so we focused on filling these and repairing any scratches or defects first to give the walls a smooth canvas to paint on.

After our Contract Manager had spoken with the school about their concerns and their hopes for the school, we understood that the grafitti was causing a real morale hit for both the students and teachers. As such, we sourced a specialist Zinga anti-graffiti paint which was both water resistant and damage preventative. We then applied coatings of Johnstones Eggshell paint to give it the final, required finish.

Added Value

With maze like corridors and large open learning spaces, many of the walls were originally covered with brightly coloured wall murals. We spoke with the client about the possibility that the walls may need additional coats of paint compared to a regular paint project. We knew how important the work was to the school and completed this extra work on time.

Regular communication was a valued asset during the project and we provided the client with weekly updates and a forum to ask questions about the project. The client also visited our team on-site too and spoke regularly with operatives including the Site Manager, demonstrating our first class customer service skills.

The Result

The diverse and welcoming school now has a fresh, new look – perfect for inspiring young minds. The client provided us with the following feedback, expressing their gratitude: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and your staff for the work that you have recently completed to such a high standard. The difference to the physical appearance of the school is profound but what you may not have been aware of is the difference you’ve made to the staff morale and children’s behaviour. They have fully embraced the new and refreshed look and they are all smiling. So thank you again to your team for doing such a fantastic job”.

Following completion, we have also been awarded further projects with the Academies Enterprise Trust.
