After previously working with intu Retail Services, we carried out a full redecoration on their intu Derby Shopping Centre to provide it with a touch of TLC.
With over 23 million people gracing the shopping centre a year, we partnered with intu Derby to redecorate the three floors of their shopping mall including painting the front of house and all client facing areas. Due to the intrusive nature of the project, we completed the works out of hours for public and client convenience.
The Project
After providing millions of people with shopping services a year, the front of house and client facing areas needed a fresh coat of paint and some TLC from our team of operatives.
The works included a full redecoration of a modern building with a complex interior structure. This required extra scrutiny and planning to ensure all areas were covered under the contract. As access was limited and due to the nature of the building structure, we specially sourced spider access equipment that was compact but viable enough to fit into the building and conduct the works in open areas such as the large, open atrium areas.
Our Solution
Over the 10 weeks, our operatives painted away, working out of hours, to ensure disruption was kept to a minimum. We worked with the centre management team to set up a programme whereby the works could be conducted in sections with achievable timescales. All equipment was removed and tidied away before general trading commenced the following day.
The building itself was adorned with decorative crowns, suspended from the ceilings, along with many concourses below the first floor balconies. We took extra care to protect the flooring, balustrades, plants and crowns from damage or paint spills during the works.
The Result
The building now feels fresher and much more inviting for customers and tenants to enjoy and utilise. With a short project turnaround, we utilised 10 of our directly employed painters to save time and ensure a consistent quality of works. All of our operatives were also given extensive training on the use of spider access equipment to ensure safe working practices during its use.
We worked with staff throughout the project to draw up access plans for our operatives to work out of hours and we sourced specialist paints for areas such as the ventilation grills which needed careful application. This delighted the customer as this would avoid drips during the drying process and no blockages were caused following its application.
Upon completion of the works, the Facilities Manager at intu Derby said: “CLC have worked efficiently and effectively, delivering a high quality standard under challenging circumstances within the timescale we required”.
