We carried out works to YMCA North Tyneside office and gym facility to turn a tired building into a fresh and inviting community area.
Providing support and facilities to strengthen people within the local community since 1989, YMCA’s North Tyneside office and gym facility was in need of a refurbishment and upgrade. CLC were proud to take on this contract to provide a fantastic new community area and gym facility which could be enjoyed by all.

The Project
With over 15,000 people using YMCA’s North Tyneside building a year, the office and gym facilities were due a well-needed refurbishment and upgrade.
The works included internal refurbishment to the gym areas and ground floor levels, reception area, main stairwell, first floor sports hall, commercial kitchen, second floor IT suites and meeting rooms.
New mechanical and electrical installations were also completed including air conditioning, mechanical extract ventilation, lighting, audio and visual, CCTV, door entry and fire detection systems.
Our Solution
Over a period of 8 months, our tradespeople hammered, drilled and painted across all floors of the occupied building.
To make sure we kept the disruption to a minimum in occupied offices, meeting rooms and gym areas, we completed the project using a phasing programme to suit the needs of YMCA. We completed any major disruptive work during evenings and weekends and a temporary hoarding was built to ensure we kept everyone safe.
We worked together with staff throughout the works and reorganised offices and studios for classes so that users could still use the facilities throughout.
Our staff all wore security badges at all times to gain access to the building along with hi-vis jackets for safety and security.
The Results
This tired and neglected building now had a new lease of life with a bright and inviting space for users to enjoy the facilities YMCA offer to their clients.
During the works, our site management team undertook effective monitoring processes to ensure we provided high standards of quality throughout the works. We also collaborated with both the client and various key supplier staff to ensure each stage was checked and accepted before proceeding to the next stage of the process.
With a tight budget attached to the project, we came up with creative ways to make significant savings so that the contract came under contract value – much to the delight of the customer.
